Untangle the
Mall tasks.
Find Adrian's hallway key, catch the Office Worker's Stalktopus and follow the routes to the sewer gates, Steel Key and Elder Gem.

THE SHORT ANSWER
For Tentacle Cleanup, start with Adrian, use his key at the Mall food-court door, then help the Office Worker catch a Stalktopus. The hand-in brings out the Mall Administrator. Defeat it, then return to Adrian for the Basic Axe.

Tentacle Cleanup, from key to reward
Start this route at Adrian's Town apartment. His problem leads into the Mall's back offices, where a second task provides the next part of the solution.

Take Adrian's request and hallway key
Speak to Adrian about the tentacles in his apartment and start Tentacle Cleanup. The wiki lists the Mall F1 Hallway Key as the item given when the task begins.
If the Mall's back door is still locked, check this conversation and the task's starting item first.

Enter through the food court
Go to the Mall food court and use the key at the door into the F1 Hallways. Continue into the back offices and speak to the Office Worker about the tentacles.
Accept Fishing in the Mall..?. The worker asks you to bring back a Stalktopus.

Fish in the F1 Hallway pool
Use the nearby F1 Hallway pool for the requested Stalktopus. Stay in the back-hallway area and look for the pool around the corner from the office.
The wiki's resupply note names Bugs from Bait Packs at the General Store. If you need your first rod, follow the Herb and Lakefront starting route.

Return the fish to the Office Worker
Bring the Stalktopus back to the worker who made the request. Completing Fishing in the Mall..? summons the Mall Administrator, according to the recorded task solution.
If you are still waiting for that encounter, return to the worker and check whether the fish request has been completed.

Defeat the Administrator, then visit Adrian
The recorded route clears the tentacles after the Mall Administrator is defeated. Return to Adrian to finish Tentacle Cleanup and collect the listed Basic Axe reward.
The victory and Adrian's reward conversation are separate steps. If your aim is the axe, finish the return trip.
Keep the requests separate: Adrian gives the hallway key and the final axe. The Office Worker handles the Stalktopus request that brings out the Administrator. Your task log is the place to check which hand-in is still active.
The Gatekeeper's three keys
The Gatekeeper's first recorded request is for Pizza. Continue the task line to the key searches below. These are sewer gate keys; Adrian's Mall F1 Hallway Key starts the different route above.

The later key search connects back to Tentacle Cleanup and the Office Worker's request. If you have not yet reached the Administrator, work through that route before looking for the office key.
Looking for the sewer mystery?
The Parks & Recreation Office lies behind the south-east sewer gate, reached through the Gatekeeper task line. Its altar is one of the seven early mysteries. Entering the Sewers alone does not complete that investigation.
Pumpkid's prank and the Steel Key
An Eldritch Prank is another reason to visit the food court. Its Steel Key reward opens the reinforced basement door in Amelia's Town house.
Speak to Pumpkid in the park
Find Pumpkid in Town's park and take his request involving his parents' wine. Follow An Eldritch Prank in your task log.
Buy Eldritch Slime in the food court
Visit the Snacks vendor in the Mall food court for the Eldritch Slime named in the task solution.
Add it to the wine
Return to Pumpkid's parents' house and interact with the wine on the coffee table. Add the slime, then leave the house and come back; this is the transition described in the wiki's solution.
Return to Pumpkid for the Steel Key
After the wine part is complete, speak to Pumpkid to claim the Steel Key. Use it on the reinforced basement door in Amelia's house to reach Skelekid.
From Skelekid to Abigail
Speak to Skelekid and complete his two requests: defeat 5 Drippers, then 5 Pipe Cleaners, returning to him to finish each stage. After completing his tasks and claiming the final reward, speak to Abigail in the same basement.
For Artwork for Abigail, find Ellie, bring her a Mana Muffin in exchange for the artwork, then take the finished piece back to Abigail. The wiki says the muffin can be found or cooked, with its recipe eventually obtained through Hans's tasks. This is the next recorded task in the basement line.
The Elder Gem: follow the offering
Molly's The Elder Gem request sends you to the mine in the Mall food court. Once there, the recorded route follows a miner and an offering.
Ask Mall Rat to open the passage
Speak to Mall Rat in the food-court mine. Follow the opened Sealed Passage to the lost miner.
Collect the Peculiar Offering
The lost miner gives you a Peculiar Offering after you clear the path. Take it to the statue surrounded by glowing green rocks in the Sealed Passage.
Use the altar, then return to Molly
Place the offering on the altar to summon the Gem Golem. The wiki route obtains the Elder Gem after defeating it. Bring that gem back to Molly to complete her request.
Match the encounter to your task: the Gem Golem leads back to Molly with the Elder Gem. The Mall Administrator finishes the back-office route, after which Adrian handles the Tentacle Cleanup reward.
